Wednesday already?

Wow, so I can't believe it's already through half of another week. Where do the days go?

This past weekend my in-laws were in town. We had a nice visit. They, of course, loved playing with the baby. Taran had a meeting for work and had to drive to Louisiana early on Friday morning. I spent most of the day frantically cleaning to make the house somewhat presentable. The in-laws are forgiving, but I still feel bad if the house is a mess. Taran's parents arrived an hour or so before he returned. We ordered some food that he picked up on his way home.

Saturday was a bit busier. Taran's mom and I went to my regular mommy meeting. I had kinda told on her at a previous meeting about her being an IBCLC, so the group leader, Karen, kept referring to her for breastfeeding questions. Luckily, she loves her job, so she's more than happy to help anyone with questions. While we were at the meeting Taran and his dad took a trip to the hardware store and picked up a super cool old-time no-power push lawn mower and some red and purple petunias for the garden. We spend the afternoon pulling out some of the old dried snap-dragons out of the flower beds and planting the petunias. They look so much nicer. Noah's new fancy car seat arrived. Tran and I were about to kill each other in the process of installing it. I had actually heard this was a problem with that particular seat - installation is the one difficult aspect of that seat. We got it in though so Noah can now be in an appropriately sized car seat since he was super close to being way too big for his first one. Taran cooked dinner that evening. Yum. I love when he cooks. He's so much better at it than I am.

Sunday, we went to church and stopped by a neighborhood craft show on the way home. It looked like a lot of the same vendors that were at a show in the same location in November when his parents were down here. I'm not sure if they have it at just those two times a year or what, but we'll see. It provided a nice activity to do and it was such a nice day too. Taran's parents headed out Sunday afternoon to return to Texarkana.

Monday, Taran got called in to work. He had to drive to Lousiana to run some tests in a lab. When he got there though, they weren't quite ready for him. When they finally got the materials together for him to run the tests, they were all off, because they had rushed, and had to start all over. He was working so late that he ended up staying in a hotel on Monday night and driving back on Tuesday.

Yesterday was relatively uneventful. When Taran returned from work, he watched the baby and managed to get him to take a nap which was great because he had been cranky and driving me crazy. I was able to take advantage of the time and bake some sugar cookies for my mommy meeting today. My sister, Karen, called and we had a nice chat. It had been forever since we talked and we were able to "compare notes" since her baby, Macie, is three weeks younger than Noah. It is nice to have an excuse to talk baby with someone who cares. Yes, I get to do that at my mommy meeting, but since I have a lack of other conversation topics lately, it is nice to know I can continue in other places too.

So, today we had our mommy meeting. The cookies were a hit which is a good thing because I have plenty left at home and I certainly don't need to eat an entire batch of cookies by myself. We'll see what the rest of the day brings. I still can't believe that the week is half over.

Another wonderful morning...

... and by wonderful, I mean terrible.

The baby decided that under no circumstances was he planning on sleeping this morning. And by this, I mean past quarter to four. Yes, kids, that's A.M. I spent most of the morning going back and forth trying to feed and comfort him and trying to just get him to sleep in his bed. I tried changing his diaper, removing his pajamas in case he was hot, and of course the nursing option. Most of the time he spent screaming at me or just vocalizing very loudly. No, that's ok... mama doesn't need any sleep...

I skipped my yoga class today, in part because my workout wear was in the dryer that I forgot to turn on last night. Mostly, however, it was because I got pulled out of yoga on Tuesday because the baby was cranky and they were unable to settle him. Under no circumstances was I going to hand off a baby that I knew was going to act like this.

For the most part, this week has been pretty uneventful. The mom group yesterday was small with about 6 of us there. Some of them discussed going to the Children's Museum today. I opted out. I'm not sure how much an 8 month old would get out of it. Just my opinion though. I'm sure it was more for the mom's than the kids, but oh well.

That's it for now... maybe more later. Depends on if I am still awake or if I've passed out from exhaustion. Can I just plan to do that for the next year or so?

Yay for the Baby!

Taran has been in town as I'm sure I've mentioned and it has been great getting to spend time with him. We mostly have been relaxing and just enjoying our little family.

Noah and I have been congested a bit lately, most likely due to excessive pine pollens in the air which have never really bothered me in the past, but oh well. I'm having to fight with him all over again to get the snot sucked out of his nose, but we are managing.

A few nights ago, Noah learned a new skill. It was so random and cute all at the same time, I had to video it. Taran and I were working at our computers and Noah was playing on the office floor with his toys and exploring other things that we have around the room like computer bags and books on shelves. He finally settled himself sitting on the floor near the office door and concentrating really hard, started clapping! He was making sure his hands touched and the shear discipline he had making sure it worked was one of the cutest things ever. We haven't really encouraged clapping that much except for in a song that my dad always sang with us when my brothers and sisters and I were younger. Since then, we can actually get him to clap along with us by clapping first and he will copy it. Too cute!!!!! I had to put the video up on my Facebook page and share it with everyone.

I'm so proud of my little one. Who knows what he'll discover next!

Oy vey about yesterday...

Yesterday was kinda a nightmare of a day. In the morning we had a really rough start. In part, because the baby woke up in the wee hours and was awake. Not the typical, I'm gonna "fuss a bit because I'm hungry", but the "I'm awake and want to play." So, yeah. I did get him to go back to sleep though.

Everyone was groggy later on when we finally got up. Well, I got up with the baby anyway. The dog and cat were begging to be fed, so I took care of them and then settled into our glider/recliner with Noah, and surprisingly, we were able to nap for another two hours! We were just coming out of our nap and I was considering going to my Smart Mommy meeting which was at 10:30. My brother and his family were going to be coming by at 11:30 and I figured I could leave the meeting early and come back. I was in too much of a daze from grogginess, so we lounged and dozed for a bit longer.

Right around 10:30 or so, I heard a knock on the door. It was my brother! They had decided to get an early start because weather back in Dallas was not predicted to be good and they wanted to make it back in time before it got bad. They had tried to call me a couple times, but my phone was still nestled under my pillow where it hangs out while I sleep. Kinda hard to hear it from the living room. In any case, I invited them in, still wearing my pajamas. I got Taran up and we changed in to actual clothing and had a really nice visit. Their kids played with the dog and had a grand time until it started to rain and they came in. They really enjoyed seeing Noah and his new tricks since their last visit.

When the rain let up, they decided to take advantage of the window of good weather and head out on their four hour journey back to Dallas. I kinda wish we had gotten more time and could have done more with them, but oh well, maybe next time.

The rest of the day went a bit down hill after that. Noah was acting really restless and so we piled into the car to grab lunch and let the baby have a snooze. He did nap, but awakened as soon as we arrived home. After that, it was a vicious cycle of crying and napping. The baby did not feel well. He's been congested with all the pollen going on in the air, but I suspected it was more than that since he wanted to sleep all day long. He'd get up to eat, but didn't want to play much. He felt warm, but I didn't want to disturb his slumber by checking his temperature. He slept in my arms most of the time. A few times, I'd place him in his bed so I could take a break. So, this is how we spent our day. When his bed time came around, I just put him to bed and we continued on our normal nighttime routine.

The good news is that this morning, Noah is in much better spirits. He is playing and crawling and no longer feels like he is warm to the touch. He's a little mucous factory though. I had to suction out his nose and even though he had become accustomed to it before when he was battling his ear infection, he had a renewed insistence to fight me, so that was fun. I'm not sure if he is fighting something else, or if it is crazy drainage from the pollen that is flying around like crazy here, but at least he is feeling better. With any luck, the snot and the slimy drool will decrease before too long. In the mean time, I'll just have to deal with him fussing at me every time I try to wipe his face. Ah, the joys of motherhood.

Crazy stuff and visiting family

Life recently has been really stressful. As a result, blogging has been put on the back burner.

Over the past week, the biggest thing is that I've been chasing the baby. No, I'm not kidding. I can't get a thing done with him. He is always on the move. Confining him results in screams and wails, which I will only put up with for a limited amount of time. I also don't want to create a stressed out baby by ignoring him - that is just not healthy. So, instead, I'm prying DVDs and books out of his little hands and trying to get to him before he tears apart my childhood books.

I take him with me and set him on the floor with a toy or something just outside of the laundry room so I can transfer a load or fold a few things. Inevitably, he'll crawl and get to something that he shouldn't, like a door stop (ours are the metal spring style, so the make a cool "boing" sound when pulled on) or a dryer sheet that fell on the floor. So, in other words, my time has to be used efficiently. It often takes me all day to get two loads of laundry done.

I find myself hustling at the end of the day to get laundry done, dishes washed, and tidying up taken care of after Noah has gone down for the night. He isn't the best at taking naps regularly. I can't plan for them and I can't plan for them to take a certain amount of time when they happen. Usually, I'm better off staying still with him snoozing on my lap than I am moving him to his bed as he'd likely wake up when moved.

In any case, luckily, Taran has returned from working off shore. He'll be home for at least two weeks, maybe longer. It all depends on what is going on at the rig and where they are in their progress. He'll find out later this week if I get to keep him later.

Taran's brother, Clinton, and his wife, Kim, are coming into town today. They both got jobs down near where we live. They'll be working at district schools so they will start their jobs in the fall. They are visiting now, since it is their spring break, to check out houses in the area. They'll be meeting with builders and relaters over the next couple of days. They are, of course, going to come by and visit us. It'll be their first visit since we moved here.

It is going to be so nice to have some family close by. It'll give us more people to spend time with so that is cool. Ok, technically, I my oldest brother lives "close by." Although in that case, "close by" is about an hour's drive, so even though it is not a big deal to drive there and back in the same day, it still becomes "a thing" and I have to make sure I have plenty of supplies for the baby and make sure that the animals are taken care of because when we go to see them, we'll be there for several hours and we always have to tack on drive time to the total time we are gone.

Later this week, my brother, Robert, and his family are going to be coming in to town. They've been promising their oldest to go to NASA, so they are going to take the opportunity during this spring break to do that. We'll get to see them at least once while they are here. So, busy week for us.

Tomorrow I go to my Smart Mommy meeting. One of the moms is supposed to bring her new car seat, the same one that I've been looking at, and we are going to see if it fits in my car. With any luck, it will and then we can go ahead and order it.

Until then...

Where did the day go?

I can't believe it is already at the end of the day. Where did the time go?

I actually managed to get out of bed today and go to yoga. I was tired, but the baby and the cat were wide awake and so I went ahead and got up.

Yoga seemed to go by really fast today. Sometimes the class seems to drag on and on, but today even though we spent entirely too much time in plank pose (that's like the starting position for push ups for those that don't know), it seemed to fly by and before I knew it, we were doing our final relaxation.

After yoga I quickly stopped by the house to freshen up and change and then we were off to Noah's recheck appointment after his second round of antibiotics for his ear infection. The doctor said that his ear drum was intact and that he still had fluid in his ear, but no sign of redness or infection. He recommended continuing the antibiotics for another couple of days and we need to return in three weeks to check the pressure in his ear and see if there is still fluid.

After the appointment, we went back home and had a pretty relaxing afternoon. We didn't do much other than play but time seemed to fly by. I was able to upload some new pictures of the baby on my Facebook page. Noah did take a really good nap afternoon and I got to read and nap some at the same time, so yay.

Noah has gone to bed early, which means that he probably won't keep his normal schedule for the rest of the night. He has been doing this lately, going down early but waking up and wanting to stay up. I don't know what it is that has changed his schedule, but I'm guessing that is why I've been so tired.

Oh well... we'll see what tomorrow brings.

I'm exhausted...

I am exhausted and I don't know why. The past couple of days I have felt like a zombie. Two days ago I went to bed as soon as I put the baby down because I was so tired. I skipped yoga on Friday in hopes of sleeping in. Noah let me get an extra half hour. That really didn't help...

Life has been pretty typical. Aside from my mini heart attacks every time Noah pulls himself up on to things. He really isn't that stable and the will stand on his toe knuckles some times rather than the bottom of his feet. I has fallen down so many times I can't even count and I can't always tell if he really gets hurt or if he is just crying to get attention. One time he did actually look at me first to get my reaction and started crying a few moment later. I really don't need him to start that.

Noah has been a bit more cranky lately. I think it is because he has a tooth coming in. He hardly napped at all on Thursday but he wouldn't let me put him down. We took a walk with the dog - the weather was beautiful. One of my neighbors came by as he was finishing up his walk with his two month old and we chatted it up for a bit. His wife is experiencing the tiredness too as she was napping... I only wish I could...

Yesterday we managed some naps, though I don't feel any more rested. I also made some cookies, because I needed something sweet to snack on and we didn't have anything in the house. I was bad about my timing though because the dog, cat, and baby all thought they needed to be fed while I was doing this.

This morning I'm still exhausted. Noah insisted on getting up early. Might be due to the naps yesterday and going down early last night... I just need some sleep...

My new blog

So, since this blog is kinda about my day to day musings and activities, I decided I'd start another one about being a mom. More specifically addressing things I have experienced or learned as a mom. I plan on discussing different aspects like cloth diapering, breastfeeding, doing laundry, etc you know, the things that people don't always tell you about in detail. So, that is my plan, if you have mom friends, send them over. No one may care, but hey, available references are always good. =)
